Oh, the craziness of people!!

As any seasoned Labor and Delivery MD/Nurse/Staff will tell you - people do the darndest things when they or their significant other (S.O.) are pregnant!

From saving the most disgusting specimens that happen to fall out of their body (i.e. the "classic" "I lost my mucous plug and... oh! I have it here in this little baggie....") to the "we were just having sex" stories as you go to check them... "uh, GROSS, please tell me you showered before coming in here"!!

There are so many stories that they tend to run all together, but there are SOME that simply stand out above the rest... NEVER to be forgotten!!

One mildly busy night, most of us happened to be at the desk as the ER tech wheeled an obviously ruptured, term, pregnant woman down the hall to a labor room (thankfully, they HAD called in advance on this patient and we knew she was coming up). But, what caught all of our attention and had us biting our lips to keep our jaws from hitting the floor was her husband walking behind them, carefully balancing a large, beautiful, china bowl in his hands- complete with flowers and gold trim around the edge.

He paused in front of us and said "we think her water broke, does this look like her water?" as he held out the nearly full bowl of obvious amniotic fluid, complete with chunks of vernix and strings of mucous floating in the murky brine!! One of use managed to choke out, "yep, that looks like it!". He proceeded to follow his wife into the room and as the door shut behind him, the desk fell APART as we nearly asphyxiated from laughter!!

Once we were able to speak again, we pondered how in the WORLD they had managed to fill up that bowl, I mean did she just squat over the bowl with her nightie hiked up around her waist until they thought they had enough to prove to us that it was her water??
Sometimes you just have to shake your head...
